"You are the change that you are looking for."
ZIMBABWE: McIntosh Jerahuni (*1988) is a musician, dancer and a choreographer from Zimbabwe. The artistic director and founder of JERAHUNI MOVEMENT, ‘a movement put in place to fight for equal rights and justice’ and jERAHUNI-MUSIc, quickly captured the attention of fellow artists, presenters, and audiences with his award-winning talent and work, ensemble of dancers, and a fearless physicality grounded by deep humanity and expressed through the madness and joy of his imagination.
He has established the Jerahuni Movement Factory with free dance classes to those interested in moving. He believes that the physical expressions give outlet to spiritual and emotional undercurrents that are entirely ignored in other dance forms.
A former dancer, choreographer and artistic director of Tumbuka Dance Company is moved by the mindset of exploring the body itself using his ‘jerahuni-technique’ without any judgement of our bodies, its abilities and disabilities’.
*Jera- means to dig and huni-is firewood which artistically means molding and giving life to junk until it becomes the most meaningful piece of art. The dance and music allows you to investigate more deeper about self identity and finding new possibilities and breaks all the limitations.
